Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 3, 2026
Homeowners Union (“we,” “us,” or “our”) provides software that helps homeowners associations (“HOAs”) and their residents manage community operations, including assessment (dues) billing and payments, financial reconciliation, and communications. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account & profile information — name, email address, mailing address, unit/property association, and role within your community (resident, board member, or operator).
- Payment information — when you pay assessments, your payment is processed by our payment provider, Stripe. Card and bank-account numbers are collected and stored by Stripe, not by us; we retain only limited details such as the last four digits, payment status, and amount.
- Financial account data— with your authorization, we use Stripe Financial Connections to link a bank account and retrieve account and transaction information (such as balances and transaction history). See “Bank account connections” below.
- Usage & device information — log data, IP address, and basic device/browser details used to operate and secure the service.
Bank account connections (Stripe Financial Connections)
When you connect a bank account, you authorize Stripe, Inc. to access information from your financial institution on our behalf through Stripe Financial Connections. Depending on the permissions you grant, this may include account details, balances, and transaction history.
We use this financial account data only to:
- verify bank accounts to enable ACH (bank) payments for assessments;
- reconcile a community’s bank account against expected assessment payments and recorded expenses; and
- provide financial summaries and spending insights to authorized board members for the community.
We do notsell financial account data, and we do not use it for advertising, underwriting, or creditworthiness decisions. You may disconnect a linked account at any time, which stops further data retrieval. Stripe’s handling of this data is governed by the Stripe Privacy Policy.
How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- operate the service and provide it to your community;
- process assessment payments and maintain financial records;
- reconcile transactions and generate financial reporting;
- send service-related communications and notices;
- maintain security, prevent fraud, and comply with legal obligations.
How we share information
We share information with service providers who process it on our behalf, including Stripe (payments and financial account connections) and our cloud hosting provider. We may also share information with your community’s authorized administrators (for example, board members or the managing operator) as needed to operate the community, and where required by law. We do not sell your personal information.
Text messaging (SMS)
If you opt in to text-message notifications, we collect and use your mobile phone number to send you account and community messages — such as assessment reminders, meeting and compliance notices, maintenance updates, and one-time verification codes. You opt in within the application by enabling SMS notifications and verifying your number, and you can opt out at any time by replying STOP.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text-messaging opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties. We share your mobile number only with our messaging provider, Twilio, solely to deliver these messages on our behalf. Message and data rates may apply. For full details, see our SMS Terms & Conditions.
Data storage and retention
We store data on infrastructure located in the United States. We retain information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, and thereafter as required to comply with legal, accounting, and audit obligations applicable to HOA financial records.
Your choices and rights
You may access or update your profile information through the application, and you may disconnect a linked bank account at any time. Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have additional rights regarding your personal information. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
